Akapela Open

The Cultural Center of the Philippines Cultural Exchange Department in partnership with The Music School of Ryan Cayabyab, La Salle University Ozamiz, Lalawigan ng Bulacan, Sining Bulakenyo, University of St. La Salle, Negros Cultural Foundation, Inc., and National Commission for Culture and the Arts bring Akapela Open, the 2018 Regional Workshops on Contemporary A Cappella Arranging and Performance to Ozamiz City last July 5-7, 2018.  The workshop was held at LSU’s Banquet Hall for three whole days and culminated on its last night with a mini concert at The Promenade Johann’s Cuisine with 62 participants from all over Misamis Occidental and neighboring provinces.

If you might ask, Akapela Open is a yearly workshop/competition facilitated by Philippine’s number one composer, musician, conductor, and voice coach, none other than the maestro himself, Ryan “Mr. C” Cayabyab.  Together with his music school faculty and his resident group Acapellago, the training delivers top-caliber performances by their students.  As a proof, here’s their pa-sample of Original Pinoy Music (OPM)!

Now this reminds me of childhood when the original Smokey Mountain was on its heights with my fave song, Kailan.  And still, that song stays as my national anthem until who knows when!  Haha!  Thank you, Mr. C for graciously taking our selfies! 🙂 Thank you for spreading love through your songs! #tosomevents
