How to Make DIY Moisturizing Alcohol

The Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19), now a pandemic is causing chaos and panic worldwide! With that, hoarding of face masks and alcohol was nonstop until supplies ran out. I didn’t realize the necessity since I was still busy at school by that time until I received tons of messages regarding alcohols. One friend even confronted me on our last day in school, “I know you have drums of alcohol so please start bottling and disposing”. I didn’t address the issue ‘coz I don’t want to be branded as “sakay sa panahon”. Another thing is, I only had gallons left from the Citronella Mosquito Repellent production for the annual dengue outbreak. I didn’t pay much attention until I went to the supermarket for our bimonthly grocery shopping. I couldn’t believe that there is no single rubbing alcohol in the grocery shelf so I realized that there is indeed a high demand of it.

But I don’t produce alcohol. What I have is 100% deodorized ethyl alcohol for my perfume and eau de toilette regular production aside from the mosquito repellent. Since it’s deodorized, it cost higher than the rubbing alcohol because it is also not harsh to the skin. In fact, selling my alcohol stock is actually a sacrifice to me. The selling price just covers for the raw materials and bottles so I guess this is a community service rather than a business opportunity to me. Anyway, this is my way of being humane to the crisis we are facing nowadays.

So this was how I addressed the need of my frontliner friends whose hands already went dry due to alcohol disinfecting every now and then. A moisturizing alcohol that doesn’t evaporate quickly, leaving the skin soft while disinfecting. Watch the vlog below on how you can do it at home and here’s the list of ingredients that you will need for 100 ml moisturizing alcohol:

  • 70 ml 100% ethyl alcohol
  • 20 ml distilled water
  • 10 ml aloe vera gel

But if your alcohol is already 70%, then opt out the distilled water. Just have it 2/3 70% ethyl or isopropyl alcohol and 1/3 aloe vera gel.

That’s how simple it is! And our finished product is below but we ran out of supplies already. Better book for our Citronella Mosquito Repellent in advance if you want to resell.
